Last updated: April 14, 2026

Hey there, fellow plant person. If something isn't working the way you expected, or you've got a question about swapping, your account, or the app in general — you're in the right place. The fastest way to reach us is email, and a real human (hi, I'm Mat) reads every message.

We aim to reply within two business days.

Getting started

How do I sign in?

rootr. uses one-time codes — no passwords to remember. Enter your email, check your inbox, and type the 8-digit code we send you into the app. You'll be signed in on that device.

How do I list a plant?

Head to the Garden tab, tap the plus button, snap a photo, and fill in a few quick details: what it is, how you'd describe it, and whether you're offering to swap or give it away. That's it — it'll start showing up for neighbors nearby.

How do I swap with someone?

Swipe through plants in the Discover feed. When you find one you want, tap to see the details and start a chat with the grower. Agree on a time and place, and meet up to trade. No money changes hands on rootr.

Your account

How do I update my location or search radius?

Open the Profile tab and tap settings. You can refresh your location, change your search radius (5, 10, 25, or 50 miles), and update your display name and bio.

How do I turn off notifications?

You can toggle notification types inside the app under Profile → Settings, or disable rootr. notifications entirely from your device's system settings.

How do I delete my account?

Open Profile → Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, plants, swipe history, swaps, and messages. If you run into trouble deleting from the app, email us and we'll take care of it.

Safety & trust

How should I handle a meet-up?

  • Meet in a public place when you can — a park, a front porch, a driveway
  • Let someone know where you're going
  • Trust your gut; if something feels off, it's okay to cancel
  • Be kind. Every plant on rootr. comes from someone who grew it

How do I report a user or a listing?

If you come across behavior that doesn't belong on rootr. — harassment, spam, or anything that makes the community worse — email [email protected] with the username or plant listing and we'll investigate. Serious reports get handled within 24 hours.

Troubleshooting

I'm not getting the sign-in code email.

Check your spam folder first. If it's not there, wait a minute and request a new code — the older one expires quickly. Still nothing? Email us and we'll help you get in.

The Discover feed looks empty.

rootr. is brand new, so some neighborhoods are still growing. Try widening your search radius in Profile → Settings. And consider listing a plant of your own — abundance attracts abundance.

A photo won't upload.

Make sure you've granted rootr. permission to access your camera and photos in your device's system settings. If you're on a slow connection, give the upload a moment — big photos can take a few seconds.

Something else is broken.

Sorry about that. Send a quick note to [email protected] with what you were doing when things went sideways, and a screenshot if you can. The more detail, the faster we can fix it.
